How to Make the Photoshop Layer Appear in Illustrator

Layer is present in both Photoshop and Illustrator. So it makes sense to use one product in the other. But you should know that some of the features wont work when you open a Photoshop layered file in Illustrator, including Layer Effects, Adjustment Layers, and Blend Modes. So try to either flatten the image in Photoshop-or at least those effects-before bringing the file into Illustrator.

Opening a Photoshop Image in illustrator

You cannot place a Photoshop file in Illustrator, you can only open it. So open your Photoshop file by using File > Open.

Step 1 Import Option

In the Photoshop, select the Convert Photoshop layers to objects option from the Import Options dialog box.

STEP 2 Illustrator Layers

In the Illustrator’s Layer palette, each of the Photoshop layer will be seen as a different object.

Step 3 Imported Image

Now you have the image in separate layers in the Illustrator (see the image above). You can do interesting things with it.

Step 4 Changing the Colour

The image shown above is created by tracing the layer at the top (which contained just the clock). Then I added some colour to it and a stroke to the traced pieces.
